Chapter 21

I’M SO STUPID

Sienna didn’t try to kiss me again onstage. She seemed to realize where the line was with me, seemed to understand that she was already straddling it. But it didn’t matter that she was keeping her distance now; the photo of us was everywhere, and me ditching Justin’s tour to “run to her side” was all anyone was talking about. It was infuriating, especially since Sienna was staying quiet about the whole damn thing, and my refusal of our relationship was falling on deaf ears. Nobody fucking believed me. Even my friends were starting to lose faith in me. Not the guys, they saw too much not to believe me, but my friends back home, my family back east…they were all beginning to doubt me.

‘Are you sure you and Kiera are all right?’

A long sigh escaped me as I looked at the text from Hailey. Another text came in while I debated what to say to her. ‘You can tell me the truth. No judgement.’

I laid my head back on the seat and tossed my phone on the table. I was probably making her suspicions worse by not responding right away, but goddamn…I was sick of everyone thinking something was going on with Sienna and me. I’d heard Evan talking to Jenny about it, heard Matt talking to Rachel. Gavin had asked how I was doing with everything, then told me he was around if I wanted to talk. Denny’s message had been somewhat hopeful, somewhat reproachful: This looks bad, Kellan. I’m choosing to believe what you told me at the bar, but if you want the rumors to end, mate, you should probably stop kissing her. All of it was driving me batshit crazy.

Evan looked over at me when I let out a loud groan of annoyance. “That good, huh?” he said.

I rolled my head his way. “I’m over this. I’m so fucking over it. Everyone thinks I’m banging her.” I tossed up my hands. “Everyone.”

Evan frowned, then shook his head. “I don’t. Matt doesn’t. And most importantly, Kiera doesn’t. And that’s all that really matters.”

I closed my eyes and nodded. “Thank God she came with me. If she was home, listening to this…” My throat clenched so hard that I couldn’t keep speaking. Opening my eyes, I looked back at our bedroom, where Kiera was happily getting some work done. Jesus. Would she believe me if she wasn’t here to see it?

Evan touched my shoulder, bringing my attention back to him. Like he could read my mind, he told me, “She’d believe you, Kellan. I’m not saying it would be easy, or that it wouldn’t cause its own problems, but in the end, she would believe you.” His lips twisted into a smirk. “And if not, then she’d believe me. I’m a pillar of trust. And I’d one hundred percent throw you under the bus if you were cheating on her.”

Humor rose in me as I shook my head at him. I didn’t think he
